At Home with the Lectionary
At Home with the Lectionary
Year B, Proper 5
In this episode, we consider the readings for the Proper 5, Year B in the Lectionary cycle: 1 Samuel 8:4-20, (11:14-15) & Psalm 138 or Genesis 3:8-15 & Psalm 130; 2 Corinthians 4:13-5:1; Mark 3:20-35.
We discuss the Israelites request for a king and the implications of rejecting the Lord's governance, Paul's tent-building work in Corinth & his use of that language in his epistle, and navigating the topics of Jesus' brothers and sisters, Beelzebub, and the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit on this side of 2000 years of Christian interpretation.
